Braised basmati rice prepared with tumeric powder and chicken stock

  • 2 Cups Basmati Rice
  • 1 Medium Onion Sliced
  • 1 Tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 Tsp Fennel Seeds
  • 1 Tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 Tsp Turmeric
  • 3 Cloves of Garlic Minced
  • 2 Medium Irish Potato Chopped
  • 5 Cardamom Pods
  • 2 Cups Chicken Stock
  • 1 Cloves
  • 3 Tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Tbsp Salt


  • Heat vegetable oil in a saucepan over medium heat, add sliced onions and stir until caramelized.
  • Then add garlic potatoes and stir-fry for 2 minutes.
  • Add cloves, cardamom pods, cumin seeds, fennel seeds, ground cinnamon turmeric and stir-fry for a few minutes.
  • Add washed basmati rice, stir to coat evenly, then add chicken stock, salt, stir and let boil for 15-20 minutes.
  • Pilau rice ready to serve.
