Plantain Hash

Deep fried plantain chops in egg coating which can be garnished with meat and served with hot tea.

  • 6 fingers of plantain
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 3 cloves of garlic minced
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • 3 eggs for egg wash
  • 2 cups seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 250 ml vegetable oil


  • Grate the plantain into a mixing bowl, add egg yolks, garlic, paprika, salt and stir to mix evenly
  • Scoop a handful and mold into a golf ball like size
  • Coat with the breadcrumbs then dip into the egg wash then coat with the breadcrumbs again
  • Carefully place in a heated vegetable oil and fry until golden, take out and place on a kitchen paper towel to drain excess oil
  • Plantain hash ready to serve. Serve with baked beans, scrambled eggs, sausages and bacon
