  • 250 grams Block of Mozzarella Cheese
  • 1 litre Vegetable Oil
For Coating
  • 2 cups Panko Breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 tsp Ginger Powder
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1 tsp Cloves
  • 1 tsp Salt
For The Egg Wash
  • 2 Eggs (uncooked)
  • Pinch of Salt

Equipment

  • Chopping Board
  • Apple Corer
  • Sharp knife
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Frying Pan
  • Spatula
  • Paper Towel

Method

  1. On a chopping board, cut the plantains into 3-inch chunks.
  2. Use an apple corer or any tool to create holes in the plantain.
  3. Slice the mozzarella cheese into sticks or thin slices that will fit neatly inside the plantain.
  4. Insert the mozzarella sticks into the holes of the plantain.
  5. For the coating, combine bread crumbs, cayenne pepper, powdered cloves, ginger powder, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in a mixing bowl. Mix well.
  6. For the egg wash, break eggs into a bowl, add salt, and whisk until evenly combined.
  7. Fully immerse the stuffed plantain in the egg mixture, rolling it until it’s evenly coated.
  8. Then, put the plantain in the breadcrumbs mixture to evenly coat as well.
  9. In a pan over medium heat, pour oil and allow it to heat up.
  10. Gently add the plantain to the oil and allow it to fry, turning occasionally until golden brown for about 15 minutes.
  11. Remove and place the plantain on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  12. Enjoy your cheesy fried plantain!
